Bushenyi’s Parental Care Nursery & Primary School Wins 2023 National Junior Schools Debate Championships

Parental Care Nursery and Primary School, Bushenyi has been declared the winner of the 2023 National Junior Schools Debate Championships.

For some of our new readers, the above school is not only good in debating but also academically is famous for registering the highest number of first grades every year, maintaining the pace for the last couple of years.

This year’s debate competitions rotated around strengthening transparency, accountability, and anti-corruption as the only way to boost the country’s development.

The Executive Director of Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority (PPDA), Benson Turamye, who was the chief guest said it is every citizen’s responsibility to fight corruption including the young and old.

“Let’s do a shame drive to shame the corrupt.”

The competitions attracted schools like Kawempe Muslim Secondary School, St. Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK), Bright Grammar Primary School, Masaka, among others only to be floored by Parental Care Nursery and Primary School hailing from Bushenyi District, Bushenyi Town Council Sub-County.

In the same competitions, SMACK emerged as the best school.

Meanwhile, as a precursor to the grand finale, MPs were physically engaged in this very debate with students on how government can effectively use technology to leverage transparency, accountability, and anti-corruption. This was the first time since 2010 that students have been able to debate with the MPs.

Hon. Rugumayo Edson, MP (Youth Representative Western) noted that the fight against corruption begins with an individual. “Set a standard for yourself and say in my entire life I will live to achieve what I achieve on merit.”

However, Asimwe Sasha a proud student of Parental Care Primary School, Bushenyi tasked Government to provide a conducive environment to allow and protect citizens who use social media to volunteer information on corruption.

Last year, our reporter asked Yebazamukama Trevor the Director of Parental Care Primary School what has kept his school on top and noted that the secret is through recruiting competent teachers who are capable of showing the learners the right direction for a better future.

”On top of sourcing and recruiting competent staff we have always worked hard as administrators to satisfy their welfare requirements so that they have the zeal to ensure that learners are fully attended to all the time,” he said adding that they also invest much in sports and other co-curricular activities to better shape their learners not only to pass final exams but also to prepare them into future’s responsible citizens.
