Three people were killed and five were wounded in the United States in a shooting at a motorcycle rally in a New Mexico town late on Saturday afternoon.
Red River Mayor Linda Calhoun said that the shooting resulted in three fatalities; five victims were transported to hospitals in Denver, Albuquerque and nearby Taos.
The 41st annual Red River Memorial Motorcycle Rally drew about 20,000 bikers to the town, Ms Calhoun said.
The violence occurred between two shops and involved members of motorcycle gangs, Ms Calhoun said.
“The shooters have all been apprehended,” she said. “There is no threat to the community at all.”
Most of Main Street in Red River, where the shooting occurred, was closed to the public for an investigation and law enforcement asked businesses in the area to keep closed yesterday.
“Our number-one priority is the safety and wellbeing of our local community,” Ms Calhoun said.
Today the Gun Violence Archive reported that 17,245 people had been killed and 14,113 injured in gun violence so far this year in the US.
