By Frank Kamuntu

NRM Flag bearer Mary Akol has been declared a duly nominated candidate for the Bukedea LCV by-elections by the District Returning Officer Haj Sulaiman Kato.

Akol was accompanied to the nomination centre by Kachumbala County MP Hon Patrick Isiagi, the district NRM Chairperson Ongole Michael James plus two Senior Managers from the NRM National Secretariat- Rogers Mulindwa (Information & Public Relations) and Sam Eyenga (Mobilisation) among others.

The DRO said he had critically perused through all the documents of Akol and was satisfied. Akol was proposed by Emong Johnson Otinga and seconded by Kaborot Margret.

Also, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate, Sam Oita Odeke, Tychicus Ebukalin the former district speaker and the son of the pioneer LC5 chairman, the late Rev. Sam Ebukalin, have been nominated all aiming to replace Moses Olemukan who succumbed to cancer last year.

Olemukan died at a time when he was serving his second term as the Bukedea LCV Chairperson, he had previously served as the LC3 chairperson of the same district.

In the 2016 election, he contested for the LC5 seat, where he defeated the incumbent, Wilberforce Tukei.

In the 2021 election, after losing in the NRM primaries, Olemukan ran as an independent and secured victory for a second successive term at the helm of the district.
