Lyantonde district Members of Parliament have urged residents who have benefited from Parish Development Model (PDM) to manage the funds at their personal level.
The government launched PDM in February 2022. The overarching goal of the program is to attain socioeconomic transformation based on improved productivity on households and enterprises at the parish level.
During a sensitization meeting at Lyantonde district Local Government headquarters on Wednesday, Hon Enos Asiimwe (Kabula County legislator) said that the government has established a couple of wealth creation programs like NAADS, Youth Livelihood Program, UWEP, Emyooga among others but PDM is the last magical bullet and it should be carefully and jealously dealt with.
“Am here to implore you to embrace PDM and own it at the parish level, if you’re serious this can be your own bank at a parish level. If we take PDM for granted, we should never give any excuse for living a poverty life,” he said.
On her part, Hon Pauline Kemirembe Kyaka (Lyantonde Woman MP) challenged leaders to work with the government in sensitizing communities to embrace social-economic programs and change their livelihood.
“All leaders, stakeholders, and civil servants should work towards the better livelihood of our people,” she noted adding,”We as MPs are working towards a transformed society and better livelihood especially transforming the remaining 49 percent that are still working for the stomach to money economy.”
Hon Fred Muhangi, the Lyantonde district LCV Chairperson applauded efforts by the Members of Parliament and HE Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to get Ugandans out of poverty.
“People of Lyantonde should be privileged to have such leaders and we should always be thankful to President Museveni for his continuous wisdom and guidance towards Uganda,” he said.
Mr Nsubuga Hood, the Chief Administrative Officer Lyantonde district noted that parish chiefs and the district production officer are available to offer necessary support and guidance for the smooth implementation of PDM in all parishes.
“We ask the members of the community not to get tired of seeking guidance from the responsible district officers and they are very available and ready at your service,” he said.
