Parental Care Primary School Bushenyi Qualifies To Represent Western Region In National Spelling Bee Competition

Bushenyi-Ishaka municipality’s mighty Parental Care Primary School has beaten hundreds of western Uganda schools, to qualify in the forthcoming national spelling bee competition.

The school which has become a household name in western Uganda due to its unique performance was announced among the best during a one-day spelling bee competition organized by Uganda Spelling Bee Enjuba in Bushenyi District. Another school that qualified with Parental Care is St. Mukasa Preparatory School Mushanga.

During these competitions, the first three best pupils: Emmanuel Tindyebwa and Shasha Asiimwe from Parental Care and Thadious Mutiima from St Mukasa scooped trophies and medals.

According to the organizers, such competitions help in improving literacy, academic excellence and sustain a reading culture but also develop self-esteem, confidence and interpersonal skills.

It’s worth noting that last year Parental Care Bushenyi came second in Africa during the spelling bee competition that was held in Malawi’s second-largest city, Blantyre.

The school’s Deputy Head Master, Mr. Desmond Tayebwa who teaches spelling said for the past five years, Parental Care has been winning the competition which he accords to hard work and a vibrant reading culture.

”Our school has been winning several competitions and now focusing on the national spelling bee championship that will be held in October this year in Kampala,” said Mr Tayebwa adding; ”Our mighty school is among the top best in Uganda because of our hard work. Our pupils are highly succeeding because we have instilled a vibrant reading culture in them. I, therefore, request our parents to trust us with more children, we help shape a better future for them.”
