Traffic Updates: Over 170 Netted In Kampala For Driving Under Influence Of Alcohol

Uganda Police Traffic Directorate Spokesperson Kananura Michael says Fika Salama awareness team continues its engagement with communities, utilizing various channels such as media houses, social media platforms, and in-person interactions to promote road safety messages nationwide.

Kananura says on Friday, September 15th, 2023, a total of 173 drivers driving under the influence of alcohol were apprehended across six divisions of Kampala Metropolitan (KMP), specifically in Kiira Road, Wandegeya, Old Kampala, CPS Kampala, and Katwe division.

”They were detained until the following day, fingerprinted, and fined 200,000/= each. The public is encouraged to report traffic violations and other concerns through our Toll-Free Number: 0800199099,” says Kananura.

During the week of September 10th to 16th, 2023, Kananura says a total of 99 drivers were recorded by CCTV cameras exceeding the speed limit along the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway and all of them were subsequently fined 200,000/=.

He adds that a total of 991 motorcycles were impounded for various offenses, including 502 riders without driving licenses, 334 without crash helmets, 298 lacking reflectors, and 127 for other violations.
