Bournemouth 0-4 Arsenal: Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz & Ben White Score As Gunners Win Again

Much has been made of Mikel Arteta’s apparent desire to rotate his goalkeepers, but that passion for mixing things up would also appear to extend to penalties. Odegaard took the first at Bournemouth on Saturday, despite Saka having the honours a week ago in the North London Derby. Both have now scored two penalties in the Premier League this season.

Saka’s were both at home and Odegaard’s on the road, so that could be the differentiating factor. Conventional wisdom would dictate you want your best penalty-taker having the responsibility all the time, but perhaps Arteta thinks Saka’s temperament is not so suited to a hostile environment. Or maybe it’s a case of not being sure who is better so mixing things up. Either way it is something to monitor as the season progresses, and an area like his goalkeeper policy where Arteta risks a backlash if something goes wrong.

Havertz taking Arsenal’s second penalty in this game felt more about getting him a first goal for the club than anything else, and reflected how comfortable Arsenal were. There was little else to be learned about them today, given how poor the opposition were.
