By Our Reporter

Security has arrested top National Unity Platform (NUP) leaders including the spokesperson, Joel Ssenyonyi, Lewis Rubongoya, the secretary general and former Kampala Central parliamentary candidate, Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu.

Joint security forces comprising the military and police surrounded the trio at Rubbies Pump fuel station in Kamwokya this morning shortly after addressing journalists on their planned activities to commemorate this year’s independence at their party headquarters.

They bundled them in a minibus alias drone and sped off to Kiira Road police station. The officers also picked up other people who were dressed in NUP t-shirts bundled them into pick up trucks and sped off to an unknown destination.

These come after party president Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine who is currently under house announced his 61st independence day address to the nation.

Bobi Wine, a former pop star made a failed bid for the presidency in 2021 in a tense election against President Yoweri Museveni.

The election campaign was marked by a crackdown on the opposition and at least 54 people were killed during anti-government demonstrations.
