The Federation of Africa University Sports (FASU), a governing body responsible for sporting activities in African universities has inked to Victoria University an appreciation letter for the exceptional performance showcased in the recently concluded 3rd Kings of Africa University Rugby7s and 3rd FASU Tennis Slam hosted at Makerere University, Kampala Uganda.
FASU started in 1971 when thirty-one (31) delegates from seventeen (17) universities in 10 African countries gathered in Lagos, Nigeria with the aim of unifying and improving sporting activities in African universities.
The continental body says that the enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and dedication displayed by each player of Victoria University made the above-mentioned games a grand success.
”The energy and spirit exhibited by your university team not only contributed to the overall success of the FASU October events but also created an atmosphere of healthy competition and camaraderie. It was inspiring to witness athletes pushing their limits and showcasing their talent on the field. We believe that sports bring people together and foster a sense of community, and your team’s participation added a significant value to this belief,” partially reads FASU’s letter to Victoria University’s Vice Chancellor Prof Lawrence Muganga.
In the same letter, the Federation invites Victoria University to participate in the forthcoming FASU Cross Country Championship scheduled for 12th November 2023 at Kenya College of Accountancy (KCA), Nairobi, Kenya.
”We have high expectations for a thrilling and competitive event that will truly showcase the athletic prowess of each participating University. We encourage your participation and make the most of this wonderful opportunity to shine on the cross-country course,” further reads FASU’s letter signed by Federation’s Secretary General Ms Peninnah A Kabenge.
Victoria University’s VC Thrilled By His Team’s Mighty Performance
Professor Lawrence Muganga after receiving FASU’s letter, got to his X handle and heaped praise onto his team for the unique performance that awarded the University a couple of trophies in different categories.
”With great admiration, I extend my appreciation and congratulations to our rugby team, Victoria Sharks, for their impressive achievement of winning the bronze at the Men’s Kings of Africa Rugby 7s Championship. Their well-deserved 3rd place ranking not only highlights their excellence but also signifies their unique role as the only Ugandan University team to secure a trophy in this category, making Uganda proud,” posted Prof Muganga.
The famous academic pundit in the same X post recognized some of the players he said showcased exceptional performance; Patience Athien and Nakayenga Jovia who made it possible for the University to bag silver medals in the Women’s Doubles category of the 3rd edition of the FASU Tennis Slam.
”Furthermore, I commend Patience Athieno for her outstanding display, securing the gold medal in the Women’s Singles category of the 3rd edition of the FASU Tennis Slam. Your accomplishments are truly commendable, and we take great pride in your well-deserved success,” inked Prof Muganga who has since lifted Victoria University’s name to the international level.
