By Frank Kamuntu

The Participatory Ecological Land Use Management (PELUM) Association in conjunction with the government of Uganda and other partners have kicked off the Agroecology Week 2023 At Hotel Africana.

Addressing the presser on Monday at Hotel Africana, PELUM Uganda Country Director Josephine Akia said that the events will enable farmers to share ideas on a wide range of issues in Agroecology and how they can promote their sector.

”I expect a huge turnout because this is our thing, and am sure very many farmers will enjoy these events because it’s here that we shall discuss a couple of challenges that have been hindering us as farmers. Talk about climate change, the unhealthy imported chemicals that have for long been hindering our yields, among other factors shall be discussed and we find solutions for them,” said Akia.

She said the events will kick off today 24th October and conclude on 27th October 2023 at Hotel Africana.

On the 24th they will have the 5th National Agroecology Actors Symposium (NAAS), on the 25th they will have the Agroecological Market Systems Expo (AMASE) and on the 26th & 27th they will have the Annual Indigenous Food & Seed Fair.

Some of the partners organizing these events with PELUM include; Action Aid, Oxfarm, France Embassy in Uganda, the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Bioversity International, Humundi, Brot among others.
