Poor Mother Burns Her Two Daughters For Stealing Bean Soup

By Frank Kamuntu

Police in Nakasongola district have rescued two girls who suffered burns at the hands of their own mother, who accused them of stealing bean soup.

The victims, whose names have been withheld due to their status as minors, are aged six and four, both pupils at Kamu Kamu Nursery School in Kakoooge town council, Nakasongola district.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the alleged perpetrator, 27-year-old Namuwonge Justine, a resident of Kyabutaika village in Nakasongola district, lit a charcoal stove and burned her children’s hands, claiming they had stolen sauce. She then intentionally kept the two little girls at home without seeking medical treatment for their burns.

The matter came to the attention of the authorities when their teacher, Kwagala Resty, a resident of Namunsaala zone in Kakooge town council, Nakasongola district, reported the incident to the police.

Sam Twineamazima, the Savannah region police spokesperson, stated that the scene of the crime was visited and documented by the police, and a case of torture was officially registered. Additionally, statements from witnesses were recorded to aid in the investigation.

The two young victims have been admitted to Kakooge Health Center III for medical treatment. Meanwhile, their mother, who is the prime suspect in this case, is currently detained at Kakooge police station.
