Two Perish In Head To Head Collision On Rukungiri-Kanungu Road

Two motorcyclists have died in a fatal head-on collision that occurred on the Rukungiri-Kanungu Road in Rukungiri, Uganda on 23/11/2023 at around 16:00hrs.

The deceased, Buganda Julius, a 41-year-old resident of Nyabitete village/parish Bugangari sub-county Rukungiri district, was riding a red Bajaj motorcycle registered as UEW 244H.

The other deceased, Banabas Niwebyona, a 40-year-old resident of Omirita cell Kasindo parish Bugangari sub-county Rukungiri district, was riding a red Bajaj motorcycle registered as UEO 609L.

Two additional victims were also involved in the accident. Andkuda Deo, a 36-year-old resident of Nyamayenje Rukungiri district, and Simon, a 35-year-old resident of Buyanja Town Council Rukungiri district, sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Doctors Case Clinic.

The accident occurred when the rider of UEO 609L, traveling from Bikurungu side to Rukungiri, crossed into the right lane at Rwengiri village’s corner. This led to a head-on collision with the rider of UEW 244H, who was coming from the opposite direction with two passengers.

The collision resulted in all individuals falling in the middle of the road. The rider of UEW 244H died on the spot, while the others sustained serious injuries. The rider of UEO 609L died upon arrival at Doctors Case Clinic.

The police visited the scene, documented the incident, and conducted a postmortem, after which the bodies were handed over to the respective relatives.

Both motorcycles are currently parked at Rukungiri police yard pending IOV inspection. Investigations are ongoing.
