On Wednesday [yesterday] concerned Ugandans from various sectors such as media, legislatures, farmers, and entire civic space turned up for a public dialogue on coffee production and organic farming, as part of the activities scheduled for the 2023 Organic Week 2023 effective 29th, ending 6th December at Hotel Africana, organized by Nogamu.

Mr. Chariton Namuwoza, CEO Nogamu said that there’s a need for actors in the coffee value chain to adopt the use of organic inputs for increased production and markets.

“We have a challenge of low productivity and output in organic farming. This is because our organic farmers are smallholder farmers who are less privileged worldwide,” said Mr. Chariton.

Dr Abubakar Muhammad Moki a commissioner, policy development at the Cabinet Secretariat, who was the guest of honor noted that the industry needs to strategize on how to boost organic farming.

“The market is there, but we have competitors therefore, we need to first study our competitors and then strategize on how to outcompete them,” said Moki.

Moses Oburu, the General Manager Vemipro Ltd called for reduced reliance on unnecessary imports in order to promote economic organic inputs.

Vemipro Limited is a manufacturer of high-quality bioproducts for plants, livestock, and poultry which are a consortium of different strains of beneficial and effective microorganisms both aerobic and anaerobic in nature.

“Encouraging the use of locally sourced inputs will diminish dependence on unnecessary imports and boost our economic reliance on organic resources,” said Oburu.
