The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) announced on Friday the detention of a Private named Kyambadde for impersonating a Major within the military ranks.
According to Brig. Gen Felix Kulayigye, the suspect, who will face charges of impersonation, had engaged in criminal activities.
Despite ongoing investigations, this incident isn’t isolated, as similar cases involving individuals posing as military officers have surfaced previously.
Brig Gen Kulayigye explained that Kyambadde is not the first to be accused, citing past instances.
In February of the previous year, police arrested a woman impersonating a Colonel, accused of defrauding victims.
Another joint security operation in May 2022 led to the arrest of four suspects posing as UPDF officers in Kampala.
Although such cases persist, Kulayigye expressed limitations in the UPDF’s ability to prevent them, emphasizing that legal action is taken against offenders.
