Jimmy Sekasi Business Institute (JSBI), one of the mighty institutions that represented Uganda at the World Food Competition in Kolkata India was recognized with an award after showcasing unique skills.
JSBI which is a private limited liability company run under Gombe Education Service (GES) is owned by Owekitibwa Kyewalabye Male David.
This competition held at Guru Nanak Institute of Hotel Management (GNIHM) India ran from 12th March 2024 to 15th March 2024 and attracted hundreds of participants from over 40 countries. The winners were announced for the categories of best chef, best cake icing, best fruit carving, and best mixology.
The good news for the award has been sealed by the JSBI principal Mr Kajjoba Hassan who says that they competed with 60 countries and over 150 participants.
”The most beautiful part is that there was a lot of learning and exposure to our students. Academic training along with practical exposure boosts the confidence and skills of the students. The presence of celebrity chefs further boosted their self-belief and this is what we aspire to at JSBI boosting the confidence of every student and encouraging them to come out of their shell,” says Mr Kajjoba.
The three students who represented the institution are; Ssenungi Andrew, Matovu Farid and Nakawuki Salma.
According to Mr Kajjoba, the aforementioned students scooped a prestigious award following a win in one of the major categories where they sculpted and carved the cakes beautifully, leaving other participants in aweee mode.
”Today, a wave of culinary innovation is sweeping through the streets of Kampala, and our alumni are leading the charge, reinterpreting classic dishes and showcasing the incredible depth and versatility of Ugandan ingredients in a modern, sophisticated light,” Mr Kajjoba noted adding;
”Instead of simply slapping a “fusion” label on their creations, these chefs are weaving the rich tapestry of our traditional food memory with the contemporary lifestyle. This evolution is not just about fancy plating and trendy techniques. It’s about honoring the roots, the soul of our traditional cuisine as Ugandans.”
Mr Kajjoba therefore says this is the right time for O and A Level successful candidates to join JSB Institute and get skilled through a wide range of programs including short courses, certificates and diplomas in Culinary Arts, Business, ICT and Fashion and Design courses and modules for research-oriented, and industry-ready holistic development of students.
