Uhuru Kenyatta Scoops Juicy Job At AU, His Kenyan Supporters Sing Hallelujah

By Frank Kamuntu

Retired Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta’s latest appointment by the Africa Union Commission (AUC) has excited Kenyans and his political supporters.

This appointment will see Uhuru head the African Union Election Observation Mission (AUEOM) in South Africa which will hold its elections between May 21 and June 3, 2024.

According to the AUC, the deployment of AUEOM team reiterates Africa Union’s commitment to support democracy and all democratic processes across the continent.

Uhuru and his team of at least 60 short-term observers will be tasked with observing the election process in South Africa and reporting on merits and demerits.

Key aspects of focus will be polling station procedures, campaigns and counting of votes to ensure a transparent and credible election.

The news of this appointment stirred a political conversation online, with many Kenyans celebrating Uhuru’s new role as others criticized the move.

Some Kenyans hilariously took on each other by reminding anti-Uhuru campaigners that the former head of state was not living a lonely life at his Gatundu home as they had prayed and predicted.

“There are UDA supporters who think he’s suffering in Ichaweri,” “Vincent Mong’are quipped, in a targeted salvo against anti-Uhuru campaigners.

Godfrey Njihia Kaguthi, said the appointment was one of many wins Uhuru had achieved since leaving office.

“Keep winning Mr President, Uhuru the great, master of soft power,” said Kaguthi.

Steohen Ndung’u said that if getting such appointments was equivalent to suffering, the Uhuru’s suffering was admirable.

“President Uhuru Kenyatta – Emeritus continues to ‘PARARA’ (waste) in Ichaweri. We all miss you as ‘fellow Kenyans’. Who doesn’t?” He posed.

Muthoni Moe described Uhuru as a natural and loveable leader.

“He will always be a leader, congratulations Mr president,” Muthoni commented.

Daniel Peterson pointed out that Uhuru, having led election observation in Nigeria in 2023, had won the trust of the AU.

“The other day he was the lead observer in Nigeria. It shows AU trusts his capabilities,” Peterson said.

Karren Karagania also celebrated the win and defined him as a classy leader.

“U.K…the classy president who grew up in state house…keep winning…I now believe class is permanent and form is temporary,” she added.

Nigerian leaders praised the former Kenyan president for excellently leading the election observation team in their country.
