Operations at the Moi International Airport, Kenya have been disrupted following a plane incident involving a charter flight to Germany.

Nation reported that the aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing just two minutes after takeoff.

Preliminary investigations indicated that 266 people on board suffered a malfunction after a bird strike during takeoff.

The incident, which occurred at around 12.22pm on Tuesday, May 7, exactly two minutes after takeoff, affected the aircraft’s left engine.

The airport manager, Abel Gogo, confirmed the incident, saying the aircraft was grounded after the incident and is still under repair.

“It’s a charter plane that normally comes to Mombasa from Europe, and the aircraft is still here undergoing repairs,” Gogo said.

There was panic, leading to delays in the landing and takeoff of other aircraft, temporarily affecting airport operations.

In other news, a helicopter ferrying Kenya’s government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura was forced to make an emergency landing in Gishungo, Kikuyu constituency.

In a statement on Wednesday, May 8, the government disclosed that the chopper was also carrying Kenya Red Cross Secretary General Idriss Ahmed.

The duo were coming from Kisumu, where they had gone to distribute relief food to people affected by heavy floods.

The statement indicates that poor weather conditions in the area caused the scary incident.

In a video shared by Mwaura’s office, he disclosed to police officers that he was well at the scene.
