By Frank Kamuntu

The Bushenyi District Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of a 33-year-old student at Kampala International University (KIU) Western campus. The deceased has been identified as Othieno Isaac, a Kenyan national.

The incident occurred on a Saturday morning at Cell D in Ishaka division, Bushenyi-Ishaka municipality. According to Martial Tumusiime, the greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, Othieno Isaac was last seen in the evening hours of May 9, 2024, at his hostel before he mysteriously disappeared.

Neighbors became alarmed on Friday evening when they noticed an unpleasant odor emanating from Othieno’s room, accompanied by flies. Concerned, they promptly alerted the security guard, who in turn informed the hostel manager. The matter was subsequently reported to the Ishaka Police Station.

Preliminary findings by the police indicate that the deceased had been taking various medications, including pethidine hydrochloride injections and clonazepam drugs. Medical documentation revealed that Othieno suffered from psychiatric disorders and had been undergoing different forms of treatment.

The body of the deceased has been transported to the Kampala International University Teaching Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
