Here Is What They Didn’t Tell You: Inside Museveni, Ruto’s Critical Meeting In Nairobi That Involved Odinga

By Frank Kamuntu

Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni on Friday jetted back to his country after a three-day tour in Kenya.

Museveni was in Kenya following an invitation by President William Ruto.

“I would like to express my gratitude to His Excellency and to the people of Kenya for the warm welcome and their hospitality, especially for the fruitful bilateral engagements we had in a bid to strengthen the integration of our nations,” Museveni said.

Museveni said the two countries are stronger together.

Azimio la Umoja Coalition boss Raila Odinga was among the leaders who bid farewell to Museveni.

Raila bid farewell to Museveni alongside Roads and Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen.

Murkomen took to his Facebook where he shared the pictures of them bidding farewell to Museveni.

“During the visit, President William Ruto and President Museveni discussed and signed several bilateral agreements, including Trade and Transport infrastructure development MoUs,” Murkomen said.

He added that both Heads of State emphasised the importance of extending the Standard Gauge Railway from Naivasha to Malaba and Kampala and DRC as an efficient and sustainable infrastructure for regional transport.

“As a Ministry, we, together with Ministers in our partner states, are committed to taking measures and mobilising resources for the implementation of the regional shared infrastructure,” he wrote.

Museveni arrived in Kenya on Wednesday and was received by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi.

The visit came a day after the conclusion of the Second Session of the Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) between Uganda and Kenya which was held at the Sheraton Hotel in Kampala from May 12 to 14.

During the JMC, both nations committed to ensuring expeditious and full implementation of decisions reached during the sessions of other bilateral meetings.

They also welcomed a proposal to hold a joint technical committee meeting to address any trade and investment issues that may still be pending.
