At least 43 Ugandans have fallen victim to a fake job recruitment scam, losing Shs22 million each, with promises of lucrative positions in Israel.

The scheme, allegedly orchestrated by Jackline Mbulateire and Andrew Sekimuli, involved their company, Akia Guest Tours Limited, which claimed to offer external job opportunities for the Israeli government and European countries. The group was operating around Lubaga Cathedral.

According to Simon Peter Mundeyi, spokesperson for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, “These people were promised lucrative jobs in Israel, earning Shs22 million monthly. The fraudsters asked them to pay Shs22 million each and then disappeared.”

Investigations revealed that Mbulateire was the manager, while Sekimuli was presented as a co-founder. It is reported that Sekimuli recently obtained a US visa, possibly to flee.

Police have launched a manhunt, putting their pictures in every system to ensure arrest.

“We are searching for them and have notified our teams to be on high alert,” said Mundeyi.
