Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo, the head of the mighty Office of the National Chairman (ONC) in Kyambogo has mourned the fallen NRM CEC member Hon Simon Peter Aleper, who doubled as the party’s Vice Chairman for Karamoja Subregion.
Namyalo described the deceased as an exceptional and committed leader.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased and NRM supporters at large. We are currently at the secretariat making burial arrangements,” said Namyalo adding; ”We ask God to forgive him for his shortcomings, and to us who are still alive, God to guide us not to go astray.
Aleper, also a former Moroto Municipality legislator tragically lost his life in a hit-and-run incident along the Mbale-Jinja Highway near Bukoona.
Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa confirmed that Aleper, was en route from Moroto to attend an NRM Central Executive Committee meeting.
According to the party, the meeting was set to discuss the leadership of Parliament’s sectoral committees.
“NRM central executive committee this morning received with shock the disheartening news of the untimely demise of our vice chairman, Aleper. We convey our deepest condolences to the family, the president who is also the NRM national chairman, the people of Karamoja and the NRM fraternity.
“Burial arrangements will be communicated later. May the soul of the departed leader rest in eternal peace,” read a condolence note from the party.
According to Busoga East police reports, the incident occurred on Tuesday, July 23 at 1am. Aleper’s vehicle, a V8, collided with an unidentified car whose driver fled the scene.
The collision happened as Aleper was travelling from Mbale towards his destination, and the other vehicle was heading from Iganga.
Authorities took Aleper’s body to Mulago National Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination.
The wreckage of his car was transferred to Iganga police as part of the investigation into the tragic accident.
