A former Member of Parliament was on Thursday caught with bags full of fake US Dollars. Abdi Tepo who is the former MP for Isiolo, Kenya was nabbed with two bags full of fake US Dollars by detectives.
The former MP is said to be the husband of a former graft suspect who was among several others subject to an operation by the EACC.
According to the EACC, Tepo pulled his gun at the detectives when they went to his house for a search. “Upon allowing access to the house and identification by the search team, the team proceeded with the search and recovered several items among them a Ceska Pistol Serial No. C561078 with an expired firearm permit,” the EACC said in a statement.
The detectives from the EACC were reportedly investigating fraudulent payment of Sh. 199 million that were made to the Beirut Pharmacy and Medical Centre in Eastleigh, Nairobi, by the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) between 2021 and 2023.
Apart from Tepo’s house, the EACC detectives also conducted searches at the residences of Beirut directors Yussuf Maalim Haret, Mohamed Bare Abdille, Virginia Nduku Ngemu, Ubah Hussein Abdi, and Beirut Hospital Administrator Oscar Mburu Murigi.
The homes of NHIF officials Amran Mohammed Ali (NHIF Branch Manager Eastleigh) and Halima Gura Roka (NHIF Quality Assurance Officer) were also searched during the operation.
