Just In: Heavy Earthquake Shakes Kamwenge & Nearby Districts

A moderate magnitude 4.5 earthquake hit 19.5 km (12 mi) away from Kamwenge, Western, Uganda, in the noon of Saturday, Aug 3, 2024, at 6.17 am local time (Africa/Kampala GMT +3).

The quake had a very shallow depth of 14 km (9 mi) and was felt by many near the epicenter. The shallow depth of the quake caused it to be felt more strongly near the epicenter than a deeper quake of similar magnitude would.
