10 Dead, 27 Injured In Head On Collision Between Pickup Van & Bus

A tragic head-on collision between a pickup van and a bus on the Budaun-Meerut state highway in Salempur, Uttar Pradesh, India resulted in the death of ten workers and injuries to 27 others.

The victims, who worked for Britaina company, were travelling to their native village in Aligarh to celebrate Rakshabandhan on Sunday, August 18. Four of the passengers had boarded the vehicle from Dadri.

“Ten people were killed and 27 injured when a pickup van traveling from Ghaziabad to Sambhal collided with a private bus. The injured have been sent to the hospital,” District Magistrate Chandra Prakash Singh said, according to Hindustan Times.

SSP Shlok Kumar of Bulandshahr reported that the deceased were all men, while the injured included women and children from the same families.

The injured have been hospitalised in Bulandshahr, Meerut, and Aligarh, with one person in critical condition.

The accident occurred when the bus, attempting to overtake another vehicle, collided with the van, causing it to overturn.

Police have initiated an investigation into the incident.

Meanwhile, the footage from the scene shared by India Today shows the van severely mangled and the front of the bus heavily damaged.
