Residents of Namabya, Bukhaweka and Bupoto sub-counties in Namisindwa District joined by their committed and tireless Woman MP aspirant, Dr. Khanakwa Sarah (PhD), turned up for a communal work exercise in rehabilitating community roads connecting several trading centres to ease the provision of social services.
Apolo Nasimali, a resident of Namabya sub county, says that residents mobilized by Dr. Khanakwa started rehabilitation of the community access roads after noticing the bad state of these roads, causing many accidents, especially to the boda boda riders.
He says the poor condition of roads had affected access to health centres, schools, markets, and government offices.
“Access in terms of roads for movement is very challenging here in many sub-counties of greater Namisindwa County, it’s difficult for us to access health centres and market centres so we decided as a community to voluntarily work on the roads,” Nasimali said.
Dr. Khanakwa Sarah said many women and school-going children are facing movement difficulties in some parts of Namisindwa, especially the hilly areas of Greater Buwabwala
She says once the community access roads are rehabilitated, it will improve mobility and access to social centres.
Khanakwa says she is happy that people heard her call and turned up in large numbers for the cause. She promised to facilitate more road rehabilitation works, even using hand tools because it is part of her social corporate responsibility as a citizen.
“I’m told there was a situation where a sick woman was carried by people on their shoulders for medical care in Bupoto Health Centre III simply because the roads are not motorable not even a boda boda cycle would us it,” Dr. Khanakwa revealed.
“I want to thank the president, Yoweri Museveni for the UGX 1 billion road fund to the districts in the country, and I would like to urge those responsible for the funds to use it for the intended purpose,” she added.
