Kasese’s Nyamwamba River Floods Again: Nurse Who Stopped To Take Pics & Videos Is Swept Away

By Frank Kamuntu

Following the outburst of the Nyamwamba River, an initial assessment has mapped the affected villages, which include Kitoro Cell, Acholiquarters, Mumbuzi, Base Camp Lower, Kizungu, Nyakasanga West, Kisanga A, Kisanga B, Salute A, Salute B, Kamulikwizi, Kikonzo, and Kisagazi.

Tragically, two bodies have been recovered since the floodwaters surged. The first was a female nurse who, while returning from work, stopped to take photos and videos of the rushing water but was swept away. The second was a male adult who approached the riverbank to observe the rising water when the ground beneath him collapsed. Sadly, neither survived.

One body remains missing, and search and rescue efforts continue.

Local authorities have urged the community to follow safety warnings broadcast on local radios. “We use the river gauge to monitor water levels and send early warnings. We want to prevent more tragedies,” they stressed.
