Respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, President of the State Affairs of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea sent a reply message to Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda on September 12.
This gives an assurance that powerful world leaders are still backing Museveni’s steady leadership, which he hopes to extend further after the 2026 general elections.
Kim’s message reads as follows:
”I thank you for the warm congratulations and greetings you extended on the occasion of the Day of Korea’s Liberation. I also express my conviction that the traditional relations of friendship and cooperation between our two countries and peoples will continue to develop in the common aspirations and interests.”
Uganda-N.Korea Relations
North Korea and Uganda have had a complex relationship, marked by periods of cooperation and tension. The relationship between the two countries began in the 1970s when North Korea under Kim Il-sung extended diplomatic and military support to Uganda under the regime of Idi Amin. During Amin’s rule, North Korea provided military training and support to his government, which was aligned with North Korean interests.
After Amin was overthrown in 1979, the relationship between North Korea and Uganda became more distant, but North Korea continued to maintain diplomatic ties with Uganda.
North Korea’s international relations are generally influenced by its need for diplomatic and economic support, and its relationships with countries like Uganda is driven by mutual interests, including trade, military cooperation, and political alignment.
