Singer Gravity Omutujju’s mother, Jane Kajoina, is dead. It’s not yet clear the cause of her death.

In 2022, during Gravity Omutujju’s sold-out concert, dubbed Okwepicha, at Lugogo Cricket Oval in Kampala, his mother, Jane Kajoina, paid a glowing tribute to her son.

At the concert, held on October 1 which she attended, Kajoina said: “My son is good. He is a hustler because there are places that he goes to and I also respect him. Had I ever been here? He even goes abroad. I wonder how he has been able to establish all these connections at his age… because he doesn’t do these shows alone. He does them with other people.”

She also told the media that she didn’t mind her son’s nickname. “… that’s music life,” she said.

Asked if she could have predicted her son would grow up to become a singer, she said: “I didn’t know [he would become a musician]. I thought he would be like any other kid. He played football and broke his leg at Old Kampala. He started singing at a young age. He was 17.”

Jane Kajoina continued: “I’m proud of him, he makes us happy, he has friends, fans are here supporting him. He comes and visits me, and he is the one who invited me here. I stay in Fort Portal. He gave me transport and I came. He told me, ‘Mum, come and watch the show and see the musicians.'”

Asked if she thinks her son is badly behaved, given some negative publicity in the media, she said: “He is a good person. He has been with his wife for 9 years, and they have two kids together. You can’t do that if you are not serious about life.”

However, the Tusimbudde hitmaker’s mother was not impressed when he began releasing diss songs about fellow artists, but they eventually discussed it.

“When he sang about other musicians, I didn’t like it… I talked to him, and he told me, ‘Mum, they also abuse me. If you could hear how they abuse me, you’d also feel the pain,’ and I told him to fight as a man.”

She said that Gravity Omutujju picked up his singing talent from her father’s side, as they had many gospel singers.
