The ‘University of You’-Victoria University Kampala has today held its 8th graduation ceremony at Speke Resort Munyonyo Convention Center, an event that attracted thousands of graduands, and hundreds of national and international guests including the Rt Hon Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa, University Founder and business magnate Dr Sudhir Ruparelia who was accompanied by wife Joystana Ruparelia and their daughter Sheena Ruparelia, State Minister for Lands and Urban Dev’t Hon Persis Namuganza, Nakaseka Central MP Allan Mayanja Ssebunya among others.
Addressing the magnitudes of the congregation, Victoria University Vice Chancellor Prof Lawrence Muganga noted that his students have been fully prepared to scoop any job opportunity, be it in Uganda or abroad, thanks to the experiential learning they have been equipped with.
Muganga said after realizing that every university prioritizes ‘good’ academic papers, Victoria University opted to front experience and skills development through experiential learning.
He mentioned that through this, many students are now fully employed and a good percentage of the graduates won’t be looking for jobs but employers will be running after them since they have both good papers, skills and highly needed experience.
“The fact is we have many Universities here, they offer good courses and then award good papers to hundreds of students, we appreciate that but the critical question here is, graduands are already working and says this is because they opted to offer what was missing in the education sector which formally prioritized excellence in papers than skills and experience.
For the next 10-20 years, AI and quantum computing will enable people to live longer since it will be improving how people live, medicine advancements, among others.
”In collaboration with The Next Train Academy, we have intentionally chosen to set up an AI computing lab during this financial year, where we can develop our own AIs that speak our languages and understand our business practices. For us, AI is something we are not going to compromise on because we know what it can do to improve our students, the community, and our economy,” said Muganga.
He commended Victoria University founder Dr Sudhir for establishing the university but also for supporting the administration that has seen the University achieve mega achievements in a very short period.
