ONC Coordinators Visit Katosi Landing Site, Residents Raise Concern Over Poor Working Conditions

By Frank Kamuntu

This week ONC coordinators; Mukono Lukyamuzi Davies, and Julie Kalule visited Katosi Landing site alongside Fisheries Officer Nakiriza, town clerk Ms Aguti and Mr Gonja Fred one of the prominent fishmongers from the area.

“This landing site was at one time voted the best in Uganda by a UN Agency but right now we are facing lots of difficulties to operate due to the heavy surging waters from the lake that almost took away the landing space, the poor drainage system that was done by Uganda National Roads Authority (URA),” residents told ONC coordinators.

They added,” When it rains, our work stops and soon all structures may be completely washed away. Let Hajjat Namyalo visit us and maybe alert our President HE Yoweri Kaguta Museveni so that we get to work. We are all NRM and the situation calls for the president’s intervention because that’s where our hope remains.”

Leaders joined the residents and requested the coordinators to spread their outcry.

The shores host over 250 boats daily that carry out fishing, especially silverfish.
