President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, National Chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), has taken bold action to ensure the integrity of the upcoming 2026 elections. Following the discovery of over 1 million rigged votes in the previous election, Museveni directed the Head of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC) to assemble teams of trustworthy Ugandans to safeguard the voting process.
Now, it’s against the above background that Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo joined by NRM 1st Vice Chairman Hajji Moses Kigongo launched the vote protection exercise at ONC. This will see coordinators pick capable vote protectors from various parts of the country who will work tirelessly to prevent any form of electoral manipulation, guaranteeing a transparent and fair election.
Launching this exercise, Hajji Kigongo cautioned the coordinators against fraud in this process and urged all Ugandans to shun electoral fraud a habit he said kills democracy & causes conflicts in societies.
“Go and recruit able Ugandans to protect our votes in the coming elections. We should not allow the rigging that happened in the last election to ever happen again. Build capacity as NRM in your various districts to jealously guard and protect our votes” said Kigongo adding;
“I will be personally monitoring what you are doing in the field, you present to us fake people I will handle you my self, no jokes in these things, no one should taint the good image of NRM. I will punish you my self,” Kigongo cautioned coordinators.
In her remarks, Namyalo first commended all bazzukulu for backing her in a struggle to ensure that Museveni bounces back on the 2026 ballot.
She said when she launched the campaign to have Museveni in 2026 elections, she got venomous attacks but amidst all she was never shaken since she knew her fight was in the interest of very many Ugandans.
“Am happy finally our fight has yielded success, Museveni has heard the TovaKuMain orders from his bazzukulu and we are now launching a tactical team to deal with those known for rigging our votes. There other day Museveni told you how he lost millions of votes to these NUP people, tell them not to dare do that again because 2026 will be hotter for them,” said Namyalo.
These come at a time when the EC is already warming up for the 2026 elections. According to Chairperson, Simon Justice Byabakama Mugenyi, nomination of candidates for the 2026 Presidential campaigns are set to take place between 2nd October and 3rd October 2025.
Demarcation of the electoral areas will be done by July 2024, and general update of the National Voters’ Register by January 2025.
Elections are set for January 12 to February 9, 2026.
