At least 10 people have been confirmed dead following a horrible accident in Madhya Pradesh’s Maihar district.
According to the police report, the accident involved a private bus and truck ferrying stones on Saturday, September 28, at 11pm.
The accident occurred after the speeding bus rammed into a stationary stone-laded truck on National Highway No. 30, about 25 kilometres from the district headquarters.
Maihar Superintendent of Police (SP) Sudhir Agrawal said the bus was heading for Nagpur via Rewa after starting from Prayagraj when it crashed near the Nadan Dehat police station.
Police said six people died on the spot, while four others succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment.
According to the police, nearly 24 people were injured and have been admitted to different hospitals, including in Rewa.
“In this accident, 17-20 injured have been admitted to different hospitals. 6 people have lost their lives. The bus was going from Prayagraj to Nagpur. The accident occurred when the bus collided with a dumper parked on the roadside,” Maihar SP Sudhir Agrawal said as quoted by Deccan Herald news.
Initially, it appears the bus was running at a high speed, Agrawal said.
The accident was so bad that the rescue teams had to use a gas cutter and an excavator machine to make their way through the wrecked bus to pull out the passengers.
Back in the country, two people lost their lives after a tragic accident near the Argwings Kodhek Junction and Oledume Road.
Police said the victims in the Monday, September 16 accident included a boda boda rider and his pillion passenger.
Preliminary investigations indicate that a Kenya Bus Service (KBS) bus racing from Kawangware to the Nairobi city centre failed its brakes and rammed into several motorcycles and motor vehicles ahead of it.
