Fear K’pla Boys! How UCC Imposter Milked Ugx700m From City Pastor To Give Him TV Licence

Kampala Metropolitan East Police have launched a manhunt for Jeddy Daniel Kabanda, who is accused of impersonating an official from the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) and defrauding Bishop Kiwanuka Musisi Grivas of 700 million Ugandan shillings. Kabanda allegedly promised to secure two television licenses and supply all the equipment necessary to run TV stations in Uganda.

The investigation was triggered after Kabanda’s wife, Namalwa Ritah, was arrested at her cosmetics shop in Gayaza. Ritah had reportedly introduced herself to Bishop Musisi as the personal assistant to UCC’s then-acting executive director, Irene Kaggwa Ssewankambo, convincing him to transfer money to her husband for the supposed licenses and equipment.

The couple allegedly received the funds in instalments, beginning with 150 million shillings, followed by 200 million, totaling 700 million shillings. Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed that Ritah admitted to facilitating the payments to her husband.

Investigations revealed that neither Kabanda nor Ritah were ever employed by UCC, casting doubt on their claims. The case will be forwarded to the Resident State Attorney for further action.

Fraud remains a significant challenge in Uganda, affecting both the public and private sectors. It manifests in various forms, including corruption, embezzlement, financial fraud, cybercrime, and impersonation.
