Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has emphasized that his country is not pursuing conflict, highlighting the shared security interests of Muslims across the West Asia region. Speaking at a joint press conference with Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, during his visit to Doha, Pezeshkian underscored Iran’s commitment to peace and regional stability. He stressed that progress is impossible amid war and conflict, pointing to Iran’s desire for tranquillity in the region.
During the press conference, President Pezeshkian reiterated that while Iran strives for peace, the ongoing actions of Israel, particularly the assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh, have forced Iran to respond. Despite showing restraint after the attack, Iran found itself compelled to retaliate when Israel escalated its offensive in Gaza and Lebanon. In response to the continued violence, Pezeshkian noted that Iran launched missiles targeting Israeli military sites as a direct reaction to these provocations.
The Iranian president framed these retaliations not as acts of aggression, but as necessary defensive measures. He called on international powers, especially the US and Europe, to pressure Israel to halt its actions, accusing the Israeli regime of destabilizing the region and expanding the crisis.
Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim, echoed the need for peace and stressed his country’s ongoing efforts to mediate in the escalating tensions. He criticized Israel’s increased aggression despite Qatar’s de-escalation efforts and reaffirmed Qatar’s role in advocating for peace in Gaza and Lebanon.
This meeting between Iran and Qatar demonstrates a collective effort by regional leaders to address the ongoing crisis in West Asia, and both leaders expressed a shared desire to deepen cooperation and promote stability in the region.
