Uganda host South Sudan at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala on Friday in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, looking to build on their last win. Ranked 94th in the world, the Cranes are currently in first position in Group K with four points, ahead of South Africa (also on four) by virtue of goal difference.
Their campaign began with a 2-2 draw against the 2010 FIFA World Cup hosts, before overcoming Congo 2-0 in their next match. Another victory here would certainly bolster their progression hopes.
By contrast, their northern neighbors have lost both their qualifying games so far, and without a point on the board, are rooted to the foot of the table.
The Bright Stars were beaten 1-0 by Congo in their first game, before going down fighting in a narrow 3-2 loss to South Africa. Having also lost to Sudan before these games, their losing run now stands at three matches, and they remain winless in the 2024 calendar year.

- Nicolas Dupuis’ side have lost their last three official matches in a row, and remain winless in six games this year.
- In seven games this year, the Cranes have won thrice but lost on two occasions: a 4-0 defeat to the Comoros in a March friendly and a 2-1 loss against Algeria in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign.

Neither side have particularly enjoyed a good run in recent times, but the Cranes have been slightly more positive in terms of results. Uganda have some good options in attack that have helped them win points in the ongoing qualifiers and can hurt the hapless Bright Stars. We expect this to be a win for the home side, but by a small margin.
