In a resounding testament to his unwavering dedication to justice and democracy, Mugisha Haffiizu has been elected among the top leaders of Uganda’s formidable opposition party, the National Unity Platform (NUP), Europe Chapter. This momentous announcement, made yesterday, October 14, 2024, in Stockholm, Sweden, solidifies Mugisha’s position as a force to reckon with in Uganda’s fight for democracy.

The newly appointed leadership places Robert Kitunzi as the Chairperson of the EU Chapter Committee, with Mugisha Haffiizu as his Deputy—a move hailed as a game-changer by political observers. Mugisha’s election speaks volumes about his tireless efforts in advocating for human rights and democracy, both within Uganda and in the international arena.

A Symbol Of Resilience & Dedication

Mugisha is not just a leader; he is a beacon of hope for many Ugandans suffering under the weight of political oppression. He has been at the forefront of the fight for those unjustly imprisoned due to their political beliefs, challenging the status quo of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s decades-long rule. His relentless activism has made him a target of government intimidation, yet he remains steadfast in his mission to establish a Uganda where justice and equality prevail.

A senior NUP official, speaking anonymously, affirmed the party’s confidence in Mugisha’s leadership:

“Yes, we have been critically observing Mugisha’s efforts. He is a dedicated youth who has been facing a witch hunt from some government officials in Uganda, yet he refuses to give up on fighting for a level playing field for all Ugandans. We believe he will bring tremendous energy and charisma to the EU team.”

A Remarkable Political Transformation

Mugisha’s journey to opposition leadership is nothing short of inspiring. Once a staunch supporter and vocal advocate of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), he was known for his enthusiastic support of Museveni’s administration. However, as he witnessed the erosion of the rule of law, rampant corruption, and escalating human rights abuses, he courageously chose to defect. His decision to switch sides was driven by a deep sense of justice and a call to liberate Uganda from the shackles of dictatorship.

A Voice That Cannot Be Silenced

Today, Mugisha stands tall among Uganda’s most influential youth leaders, using every platform available—TV, radio, and international forums—to voice the concerns of the oppressed. He has boldly declared that he will not rest until Uganda becomes a nation for all its citizens, rather than a preserve for a privileged few.

His election as the Deputy Chairperson of the EU Chapter Committee is a testament to his resilience, vision, and growing influence in Uganda’s struggle for democratic governance. With his dynamism and unwavering commitment, Mugisha is not just a leader—he is a revolutionary force paving the way for a free and fair Uganda.
