A family in Nyamira county, Kenya is mourning the loss of three children who died in a house fire in Nyangori, Gachuba area of Kitutu Masaba.

The heartbreaking incident took place around 1am on Wednesday, October 16, when a fire engulfed the timber house where the children were sleeping.

All three victims—a 12-year-old girl, a 4-year-old girl, and a 9-year-old boy—were children of Naftal Mogai.

The children were asleep on the upper level of the house when the fire erupted, providing them with no chance to escape.

A villager who rushed to the scene recounted the harrowing incident.

“We heard screams and rushed over, but by the time we got there, the house was already consumed by fire. We couldn’t save the children,” said the neighbor, overwhelmed with emotion.

Naftal Mogai, the father of the children, expressed his devastation and difficulty in coping with the loss of his three kids.

“My world has come crashing down. I don’t know how to move forward after losing my children like this,” he said tearfully.

Detectives from the Keroka Police Station arrived shortly after the fire was reported.

They assessed the scene before transporting the children’s remains to the morgue at Gucha Hospital.

“We are investigating the cause of the fire and will ensure the family gets justice,” said one of the detectives.

The tragic incident has left the local community in disbelief, with many coming together to support the family during this challenging time.

Villagers are now advocating for increased fire safety awareness to help prevent similar incidents in the future.

In a separate incident, tragedy struck Ramula village in Gwasi West, Suba South constituency, after two children perished in a house fire.

The victims, Saviour Omondi, a three-year-old PP1 pupil at Ramula Primary School, and his one-and-a-half-year-old brother, Reagan Otieno, died during the blaze, which occurred at 3am on Saturday, September 14.

Area Chief Tobias Opiyo confirmed that the children’s parents were attending a night prayer service at a nearby home when the fire broke out.

Opiyo also mentioned that Ogolla suspects the fire might have been started by a night runner known to visit his place, though he has no known issues with anyone in the village.
