Lapaire Opens Mega Shop In Entebbe, Partners With Vivo Energy To Expand Affordable Eye Care Services Across Uganda

By Frank Kamuntu

In a strategic move to address Uganda’s pressing need for accessible and affordable eye care, Lapaire, a Pan-African optical retail chain, has opened its 16th shop in collaboration with Vivo Energy. This new location, situated at Shell Kitooro on Kampala Road in Entebbe, is part of a broader initiative to bring essential vision services to high-traffic areas, making eye care more accessible to everyday Ugandans.

Roseline Kilonzo, Lapaire Group’s Marketing Manager, highlighted the significance of this partnership. “Collaborating with Vivo Energy is an important step toward our mission of expanding access to eye care services across Uganda. By establishing our optical shops at Shell stations, we are integrating eye care into people’s daily routines, allowing them to prioritize their vision health conveniently.”

This partnership reflects Lapaire’s focus on reaching underserved communities. The World Health Organization reports that 80% of visually impaired individuals in Africa lack proper care, and Lapaire is committed to closing this gap. By placing optical services at Shell-branded petrol stations, Lapaire is setting a new standard for accessibility, ensuring that quality eye care is within reach for more Ugandans.

The new Entebbe shop will offer a comprehensive range of services, including free eye tests, corrective prescriptions, and a variety of affordable, stylish eyewear. The shop’s hours are tailored to accommodate busy schedules, operating from 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM on weekdays and 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Saturdays. This flexibility ensures that both motorists and local residents can easily access the care they need.

Keneth Twinamatsiko, Lapaire Uganda’s Operations Manager, stressed the importance of affordability and accessibility. “Eye care in Uganda is often seen as expensive and difficult to access. Our goal is to eliminate these barriers by opening shops in key locations and offering transparent pricing,” he said. Twinamatsiko also emphasized Lapaire’s commitment to road safety initiatives, particularly for motorists, who are often impacted by poor vision.

This collaboration with Vivo Energy is expected to have a wide-reaching impact, serving not only the local communities in Kitooro, Katabi, Nakiwogo, Nsamizi, Lunnyo, and Lugonjo, but also promoting broader awareness of eye health in Uganda. Lapaire’s initiative aims to combat a major issue—the lack of affordable eyewear, which affects millions of Africans.

According to the World Health Organization, 55 million people in Africa need glasses, yet only 1.3 million have access to them. This alarming statistic highlights the urgent need for initiatives like Lapaire’s, which seeks to close the gap in optical care by offering free eye tests, flexible payment plans, and fair pricing.

Oliver Mwanko, Lapaire’s Communications Manager, emphasized the company’s holistic approach to eye care. “Our mission goes beyond simply providing glasses. We offer a complete service package that includes free eye tests and affordable payment options to ensure that everyone can access the care they need.”

To mark the grand opening of the Entebbe branch, Lapaire will roll out a community outreach campaign, both online and offline, encouraging people to book eye tests and raising awareness about the importance of eye health. This effort solidifies Lapaire’s role in improving vision care for all Ugandans.
