Golf enthusiasts from across Uganda are gathering in Masindi and Hoima districts for the highly anticipated 26th edition of the Kinyara Golf Open, set to take place from November 21-23, 2024. Players from Kampala, West Nile, Tooro, Mbarara, and Lira have already begun their preparations for the premier tournament, which will unfold at the scenic 9-hole Kinyara Golf Club.

The Kinyara Golf Open, a key fixture on the Uganda Golf Union calendar, will feature over 200 participants, including both professionals and amateurs, competing across various categories: Gross, Professionals, and Subsidiaries.

During the event’s official launch at Uganda Golf Club in Kampala, Sekhar Veedhi, Chief Marketing Manager at Kinyara Sugar Limited, highlighted the significance of the tournament. “This championship is a flagship event for the Kinyara Golf Club, and we are dedicated to supporting the growth of golf in Uganda,” he stated.

Kinyara Club Captain Moses Enzama assured competitors that everything was in place for a smooth tournament experience. “With support from our partners in the insurance sector—Sanlam, ICEA Lion, MUA, UAP Old Mutual, and Gold Star Insurance—the course is in pristine condition, and we have exciting prizes lined up for the winners,” Enzama said.

Sarah Siryowe, Team Leader at Liaison Group, expressed her pride in supporting the event, which unites golf professionals and amateurs alike. “We’re thrilled to be part of an event that showcases excellence and sportsmanship, values that are core to our mission,” she added.

Reigning champion Joseph Cwinya-ai is aiming for his fourth consecutive title in the Gross category, with amateurs set to compete over 54 holes. Professionals will battle it out for a UGX 10 million cash prize in a two-round, 36-hole competition.

With green fees set at UGX 50,000 and a total of UGX 4 million in prizes for the top five amateurs, the Kinyara Golf Open promises to be a thrilling event. Spectators and participants alike are eager for the action, ready to witness the best of Uganda’s golfing talent in this exciting showdown.
