In just two years since their formation, the Sharks have achieved a remarkable feat by securing a coveted place in Uganda’s Rugby Premier League, the highest level of competitive rugby in the country. Rugby in Uganda has traditionally been dominated by a few established clubs such as Kobs RFC, Black Pirates, and Heathens RFC, with these teams having dominated the domestic rugby scene for years. The Sharks’ story began when Sebuliba Patrick, the team’s chairman, identified a group of promising students who had the talent but lacked financial support to pursue rugby professionally. Recognizing their potential, Victoria University stepped in to offer rugby scholarships to 13 students, giving them the opportunity to hone their skills and pursue their passion for the sport. This initiative laid the groundwork for the team’s subsequent success, creating a solid foundation for their rise in Uganda’s competitive rugby landscape.
