Residents of Nyamataro in South Kitutu Chache constituency in Kenya were shocked to discover a couple had died under mysterious circumstances in their rented apartment.
The incident, thought to have happened several days earlier, was uncovered when neighbours noticed a foul odour from the apartment.
The deceased woman, identified as 29-year-old Angela Moraa, who was reportedly linked to the United States, was found dead next to her husband, 28-year-old Vincent, a doctor at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.
The couple was found holding hands, with the woman’s body showing signs of decomposition.
Evans Nyambunde, Vincent’s cousin, said that the family became worried after several unsuccessful attempts to reach him by phone.
They were then forced to ask about Vincent’s whereabouts at his workplace, where they were told he had last been seen on Wednesday, November 27.
“We tried calling him multiple times, but his phone was off. When we inquired at Kisii Referral Hospital, we were informed he was last seen on Wednesday,” Nyambunde stated.
Local elder Yuvinalis Oyagi expressed sadness over the incident and advised community members facing difficulties to seek help.
“It is disheartening for adults to resort to taking their lives due to life’s challenges. I encourage anyone struggling to speak out and seek support rather than end their lives,” he said.
The couple’s bodies were taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary as police began investigating the cause of death.
Authorities are investigating whether foul play was involved or if the deaths were self-inflicted.
The tragedy has highlighted the importance of mental health and the need for community support during difficult times.
In a separate incident, the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists’ Union confirmed the death of Francis Njuki, an intern at Thika Level 5 Hospital.
The deceased died Tuesday morning, November 26, according to KMPDU Secretary General Davji Atellah.
