In a new development within the National Resistance Movement (NRM), party supporter Jamil Kazibwe on behalf of a bigger political group with in NRM has petitioned the party’s top leadership, calling for the replacement of Dr. Tanga Odoi as the Chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission.
Kazibwe and his group which is purportedly backed by some big NRM wigs accuse Odoi of incompetence, citing the NRM’s recent losses in key by-elections as evidence of his alleged failure to effectively oversee the party’s electoral processes.
The petition, which has been addressed to the NRM National Chairman, President Yoweri Museveni, and other senior party leaders, including Secretary General Richard Todwong, outlines grievances over what Kazibwe describes as a lack of strategic direction under Odoi’s leadership. According to Kazibwe, the repeated losses not only tarnish the party’s image but also risk diminishing its dominance in national politics.
Sources within the party indicate that the petition has been received and is under consideration. However, it remains unclear whether the leadership will act on the demands or retain Dr. Odoi at the helm of the NRM Electoral Commission.
Efforts to reach Tanga Odoi for a comment were unsuccessful by press time.
Meanwhile, party insiders suggest that this could reignite internal debates about the need for reforms to strengthen the NRM’s electoral machinery ahead of the next general elections with party primaries fast approaching, remember Tanga is among the few bosses at NRM working without a contract, which may give his boss a simple job to fore him!
This petition adds to the growing voices within the NRM urging for accountability and efficiency in the party’s management.
It’s further stated that inside the NRM leadership, several top bosses have since jumped onto Kazibwe’s petition all condemning the way Odoi is handling the Office and have since been pushing in silence to see him vacate it.
How the leadership responds to Kazibwe’s demands could set the tone for the party’s strategy moving forward.
