By Spy Uganda

Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s delegation, led by Maj Gen James Birungi, the Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security, toured several key Algerian military installations on Wednesday with the view of identifying areas of cooperation.

The installations included the Higher Warfare College, Staff and Command School, and the Clothing and Bedding establishment responsible for military manufacturing.

During the tours, Maj Gen Birungi and his colleagues, who included Maj Gen Bob Ogiki, the Joint Chief of Staff Policy and Strategy, and Maj Gen Keith Katungi, the Commander of the 5th Infantry Division, interacted with top Algerian Generals, exploring potential areas of cooperation and collaboration with the Algerian military, which is ranked among the strongest in Africa.

Maj Gen Birungi apologized to the hosts for Gen Kainerugaba’s absence, explaining that the Chief of Defence Forces had to cut his trip short due to other State duties that required his presence in Kampala.

Despite this, the Ugandan delegation received a warm reception and engaged in cordial discussions.

The tours to the three military installations followed Gen Kainerugaba’s Tuesday meeting with his Algerian counterpart, General Saïd Chanegriha, Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defence and Chief of Staff of Algeria’s People’s National Army. They discussed the upcoming signing of a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the UPDF and the Algerian military.

Gen Kainerugaba had also visited the Algerian Navy and Airforce headquarters.
