The Tembo Steels community is grappling with the sudden passing of its accountant, Jignesh Kumar Thakar, who was found lifeless in the bathroom of the company’s guesthouse at its Iganga factory on February 4, 2025, RIP!

Thakar, stationed at the Tembo Steels head office in Kampala, was in Iganga for his routine monthly visit, overseeing staff salaries as part of his responsibilities. His assignment followed its usual course until the tragic morning when he failed to respond to calls from the company driver, David Tugume, who had gone to pick him up at 10:00 a.m.

When Thakar did not answer, Tugume proceeded to check his room, where he discovered him collapsed in the bathroom, face-down, with the water still running.

According to a medical certificate signed by Dr. Joseph Ongaria from KCCA Mulago Mortuary, Thakar suffered a diffuse subarachnoid hemorrhage, a severe type of brain bleeding. The report also cited chronic kidney disease as a significant underlying condition that may have contributed to his sudden collapse.

Police investigations ruled out foul play, reinforcing the medical conclusion that Thakar’s death was from natural causes.

Rising Cases Of Bathroom Fatalities In Uganda

Thakar’s untimely passing adds to a concerning pattern of bathroom-related deaths in Uganda. Recent victims of similar tragedies include business executive Joe Wavamuno Kayima, Fireworks Advertising CEO Frank Muthusi, and UPDF Deputy Airforce Commander Stephen Kiggundu.

Medical experts warn that pre-existing health conditions, coupled with sudden exposure to hot water or changes in air pressure, can trigger fatal incidents, especially among individuals with hypertension or heart conditions.

Tembo Steels has expressed profound sorrow over the loss of a valued team member. The company’s Human Resource Manager, Juliet Kabaitira, conveyed heartfelt condolences to Thakar’s family, friends, and colleagues.

“We sympathize with the family and the entire Tembo Steels fraternity for the loss of a colleague. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” she stated.
