Lwengo District is witnessing a legal dispute as Mbeeta, Kamya & Co. Advocates, acting on behalf of the Lwengo District NGO Forum (LDNGOF), have issued a demand notice to Lwengo District’s Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Lujjumwa Nathan, citing infringement of their registered name and trademark.
According to the legal notice dated February 11, 2025, the Lwengo District NGO Forum is a duly registered entity with a legally recognized trademark, LDNGOF. The organization claims to have fulfilled all registration requirements and was granted both a Certificate of Registration and a Permit of Registration by the National Bureau of Non-Governmental Organizations. However, it alleges that Mr. Nathan, has persistently misrepresented its identity by referring to LDNF as the same entity, which the forum asserts is false.
The legal team argues that these repeated misrepresentations have not only misled government offices, including the Attorney General’s office, but have also damaged the reputation of LDNGOF. The letter from the Attorney General, dated February 4, 2025, highlights statements made by Mr. Nathan in official correspondences dated January 6 and January 9, 2025, in which he allegedly equated LDNF to LDNGOF and accused the organization of fraudulent procurement of recommendations.
In response, the legal representatives of LDNGOF have demanded that Mr. Nathan retract all misleading statements and cease any further misrepresentation within seven days. The notice further warns that failure to comply will result in civil and criminal proceedings against him personally, at his own cost and peril.
It remains to be seen how CAO will respond to these demands and whether legal proceedings will be initiated should the demands not be met within the stipulated period.
