Just In: Four NUP Election Committee Officials Reportedly Abducted In Mpigi

By Our Reporter

The National Unity Platform (NUP) has reported that four members of its Election Management Committee were last evening ‘abducted’ while on their way back from a burial in Rakai.

NUP Secretary-General David Lewis Rubongoya condemned the abductions, revealing that the officials were taken by unknown assailants, and their whereabouts remain unknown.

“Four of our Election Management Committee members were violently abducted last night around Mpigi as they returned from the burial of comrade Ssebufu’s mother in Rakai. Their whereabouts remain unknown. You can imagine the impunity! The injustice!” Rubongoya has stated.

His concerns were echoed by NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi, who decried the growing impunity in the country.

”Four members of our Election Management Committee, Mercy Walukamba, Rovans Alex Lwanyaga, Rahma Juma and Kayabura Eddie are missing. The available information indicates that they were abducted on gunpoint around Lungala, Mpigi last night as they returned from a burial in Rakai. Onlookers say several other comrades were abducted violently and taken away in drones. A few days ago, Gen. Museveni’s son promised to make NUP weep and he is on it. But we can assure him and his father that they are not God. The people of Uganda will have the final laugh!,” said Kyagulanyi.

As the search for the missing NUP officials continues, party leaders and human rights activists are demanding their immediate release and accountability from the government. However, there has been no official response from security agencies regarding their fate.

Meanwhile, while NUP accuses the government of orchestrating such abductions, Ugandan authorities have consistently denied involvement. In previous instances, officials have refuted claims of detained opposition figures, maintaining that security agencies operate within the bounds of the law.
