Tragedy has struck Kanyamelo village in Bondo Kenya after two family members died and three others were hospitalized following a suspected case of food poisoning.
Local Chief Susan Akoth Muga alerted authorities, reporting that some family members had died under mysterious circumstances. Officers from Akala Police Station responded to the scene, confirming the incident of food poisoning.
Police confirmed that 74-year-old Ernest Ojigo Olum and his 5-year-old son, John Otieno Ojigo, died after suffering from severe vomiting.
According to a TV47 report, three other family members—Deborah Adhiambo Ojigo (19-year-old daughter), Deborah Auma (niece’s niece), 19, and Val Adhiambo Ojigo (daughter), 2—were rushed to Bondo Sub-County Hospital in critical condition.
“Susan Akoth Muga, chief of the South West Gem area, reported that some family members were feared dead under mysterious circumstances in her jurisdiction.
“Officers from Akala police station visited the scene, at the home of Ernest Ojigo Olum and discovered that some family members had suffered from food poisoning and that two family members died while three others were rushed to Bondo Hospital with stomach pains,” the police said.
The incident reportedly occurred during dinner, where the family shared ugali and cowpea leaves.
Samples of the suspected poisoned food were collected for examination, and the two bodies were taken to the Bondo Sub-County Hospital morgue for postmortem examination.
Law enforcement officials have launched an investigation into the tragic incident.

According to the woman, her boss’s behavior changed dramatically after she discovered that he had locked another woman in one of the rooms and poisoned her repeatedly for five days.
The situation escalated after a heated argument with his employer. He invited his friend over, and the two allegedly attacked him, stabbing him with an unknown substance.
In a shocking incident, the employer gave her a knife, urging her to “end her suffering.” However, the woman found enough strength to defend herself, stabbing the man.
