In a bold move aimed at reshaping Uganda’s media landscape, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has announced that his office will soon conduct an audit of all media houses in the country, following directives from the Commander-in-Chief.

Taking to social media, Gen. Muhoozi declared, “My office will soon begin an audit on ALL media houses. These are the instructions of the Commander-in-Chief. All of you will report to my office from now!”

As part of this directive, all managing directors of media houses have been summoned to a crucial meeting scheduled for Thursday, February 27th, at the Offices of the Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations (SPA/SO). The meeting, according to Gen. Muhoozi, is intended to ensure compliance with the upcoming audit process.

Furthermore, Gen. Muhoozi announced the organization of a cadre course for all managing directors of media houses, emphasizing that participation will be mandatory. “We are organizing a Cadre course for all MDs of media houses. It will be a good one,” he stated.

Perhaps the most significant revelation in his series of statements is that media executives who fail to attend the cadre course may face consequences. “My office will not license any MD and probably his/her deputy who does not attend the cadre course,” Gen. Muhoozi warned.

This announcement has sparked discussions among media professionals and civil society organizations, with many waiting for further clarification on the nature of the audit, the purpose of the cadre course, and the implications for press freedom in Uganda.

While some see the move as an effort to instill discipline and professionalism in the media sector, others have raised concerns over potential government overreach and the independence of the press.

As the meeting date approaches, all eyes will be on Gen. Muhoozi’s office to see how this directive unfolds and what impact it will have on the country’s media industry.
