The drama unfolded at Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court when a man pleaded for the release of his wife, who was accused of attempting to kill him.

Vincent Muhirwe shocked the court when he broke down in tears, asking the judge to forgive his wife, Carolyn Tumwesigye.

Tumwesigye had been arrested and charged with attempted murder after attacking her husband with a panga, causing a deep cut on his left arm.

The incident happened on January 24 in Kiwatule, Kampala.

Prosecutors said the attack was a result of a domestic quarrel that turned violent.

When Tumwesigye was first questioned, she claimed that she mistook her husband’s arm for a snake.

However, her lawyer later admitted that the attack was related to accusations of infidelity.

Prosecutor Ivan Kyazze told the court that after the attack, Tumwesigye also stole Shs 7.3 million from her husband.

Despite being the victim, Muhirwe stood in court and made an emotional appeal.

He told Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi that he had already forgiven his wife and wanted her to come back home.

“I have already forgiven her. She is not good at public speaking, and I need her back home. I have no one to cook for me or prepare my fruits. Hunger is taking a toll on me,” he told the court, leaving many in shock.

His words moved the court, and the judge took them into consideration.

Since Tumwesigye was a first-time offender, the magistrate decided to give her a caution instead of sending her to jail.

“Do not come back here when she cuts you again,” Magistrate Kayizzi warned.

After the ruling, Tumwesigye was released, and the couple left the courtroom together.

Some people in court were surprised by the husband’s decision, while others said it showed true love and forgiveness.

The case has sparked mixed reactions, with some people praising Muhirwe for forgiving his wife, while others believe he made a dangerous mistake.

Many are questioning whether love should come before justice in such cases.
