By Our Reporter

Yesterday, at approximately 0800 hours, a student of Faith Secondary School in Lira City discovered an SMG firearm, No. UG PSO 56S 4100382 14317, with two rounds in a small magazine.

The weapon was found hidden in a bush near the football pitch of Ireda Primary School, located in Ireda Lumumba Cell, Ireda East Ward, Lira City East.

The student promptly informed the Head Teacher, who then notified the security forces. The recovered firearm was handed over to the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) 103 Battalion in Lira City for further investigation.

The 5 Division Commander, Major General Keith Katungi, commended the local population for their continued cooperation with security forces in maintaining peace in Northern Uganda.

”We commend the student and Faith Secondary School for their vigilance and the vital role citizens play as the eyes and ears of the community by reporting suspicious activity, abandoned arms, and equipment to enhance security, peace, and stability,” says UPDF adding;

”The UPDF remain committed to protecting Ugandans and their property.”
